A
Walk in the Woods
This
work is a 5 to 6 minute mostly lyrical
work that captures a strong Asian flavor
and the beauty of the euphonium. At the
same time, it provides some moments of
lyrical agility and great power. This is a
welcome addition to the repertoire.

Sonata
in C Major
Another
Baroque transcription worthy of
performance. Prepared like the Marcello Sonata
in F Major, this edition comes with
both an ornamented part and an
ornament-free part so that the performer
can choose the particular editings
preferred. This solo is more lengthy than
the Marcello and requires greater
flexibility in the extended ranges because
the part is taken directly from the
bassoon text.

Elegié
in C minor
Drawing
influence from the paintings of French
Romanticists and Impressionists, Gabriel
Fauré never completely recognized his
appeal to audiences. Combining his
personal harmonies and hauntingly
memorable melodies yielded his Elegié
in C Minor, Op. 24. An expansive and
beautiful work, it was originally written
for violoncello and piano. This adaptation
tries to bring the demands of the piece
within the grasp of the euphonium player.
A beautiful work that will challenge all
and contains numerous ossias for adjusting
to various playing levels.

Concerto for Euphonium: Swimming the
Mountain
Piano
Reduction
The composer has created an excellent work
with a wonderful programmatic theme. The solo
part will challenge advanced college students.
This wasrecorded with the New Zealand
Symphony Orchestra in 2006.
From the Composer: The concerto is loosely programmatic. In
the first movement the euphonium is Zeus,
surveying, enjoying, and commanding his realm.
The second movement depicts the eclipse, the
emergence of stars in the darkness, and then
the return of the sun. The third movement
playfully explores musical possibilities and
impossibilities, featuring interactions
between the euphonium and the piccolo,
timpani, and violin. The concerto is performed
without a break between movements.

(Piano

Wind Band Set Available - Email
A
brilliant work that is often very
difficult to find. A gifted Japanese
composer, arranger, and pianist, Yasuhide
Ito composed his Fantasy Variations for
Euphonium and Wind band in 1990 for the
Japanese euphonium guru, Toru Miura. Cast
as a theme and variations solo, this piece
combines wonderful Japanese flavor with
superb wit and an inventive nature. Unlike
normal variation solos, the clever Ito
begins the work with two variations,
before presenting the broad expansive
theme. The composition closes with a fugue
and finale with great power and
energy.

Sonata
in F Major
One
of the standards in the Baroque
transcription repertoire for the
euphonium. This edition includes both an
ornament-free solo part and one with the
ornaments used by the editor. This will
allow the performer to see how a Baroque
piece may be ornamented while having the
option to compose their own ornaments and
make use of the ones in the ornamented
part. One of the best aspects of this
piece is that it can easily be adapted for
a wide range of playing levels by altering
the amount of ornamentation.

Dorma
A
name familiar to all music lovers, Giacomo
Puccini wrote some of the worlds most
beautiful and moving melodies. Nessun
Dorma from Turandot is arguably
his most famous aria with very memorable
performances by Pavarotti and "The
Three Tenors." This wonderful song
gives the euphonium a chance to sing to
its fullest tone quality, intensity, and
lyricism. This edition incorporates the
articulation of the Italian lyrics.

One
of the most memorable and haunting
melodies from the pen of Sergi Rachmaninov.
His Vocalise stands as a famous
work along side his Piano Concerto No.2
and his Variations on a Theme by
Paginni. The lush harmonies and melodies
culminate in this most appealing work
that conveys his longing to return to
his homeland. One of the best known
pieces of music and an extremely
valuable study of phrasing.

superb arrangement of the extremely well

graduate of the University of Georgia,
captures the mood and style of the
original magnificently with very idiomatic
writing for all parts. This work deserves
a place in any tuba-euphonium ensembles'

A
fantastic work for euphonium trio by an
excellent Japanese pianist and composer.
The euphonium trio is a great chamber
medium and this work’s movements can be
performed individually or all together.
The movements are: The Start in
Season, Water Lily, Storm of Autumn, Noel
Arpeggio. Isomura
is an excellent pianist with a slightly
new age style, but her music is singular
and this piece will work very well for a
wide variety of performance settings.

Euphonium
and Brass Ensemble
Taking
the delicate oboe concerto and
transcribing it for 10-part brass ensemble
(Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Scoring = 4
trumpets, 1 Horn, 4 trombones, & 1
tuba) has made an excellent chamber work.
This is a wonderful arrangement to
demonstrate style and control and makes
use of a little used ensemble with a
euphonium as the soloist. The
accompaniment parts require a group
sensitive to the character of the music,
but a good college/university group should
work easily.

Adam Frey, Euphonium
Soloist
Adam
Frey represents one of the young elite brass
soloists in the world by bringing his sharp
intellect, mature musicianship, and charismatic
stage presence to audiences all over the world. A
native of Atlanta, Georgia, Adam began his musical
studies at the University of Georgia under Dr.
David Randolph and earned a Bachelor of Music
magna cum laude with High Honors. Adam later
completed a Master of Music with Distinction and a
Professional Performance Diploma with Distinction
from the Royal Northern College of Music in
Manchester, England.
Traveling extensively in the
past few years with concert appearances in Europe,
America, and Austral-Asia, Adam’s performances

Some orchestral ensembles have included the Boston
Pops (USA), Cheju (South Korea), Fort Collins

Symphony Orchestras. Brass band concerts have
mainly been concentrated in Europe performing with

His first solo recording entitled, Listen to
THIS!!, received worldwide acclaim for both
its numerous world premieres and impressive
performances. Some reviews from the brass
enthusiast publication Brass Band World include:
-
"What Frey is above all things is
enterprising and adventurous."
-
"Frey imparts to the Fauré an
assurance and tenderness that is fitting, just
as he brings his
enviable finger technique to Flight of the
Bumble Bee."
In 2003, Adam released a new recording entitled
Collected Dreams - a wonderful collection
of traditional Scottish, Irish, and classical
melodies that combines the lush sound of the
euphonium with dreamy synthesizer accompaniments
in a new age vein. He also appears on ten other
recordings as a collaborative artist and has been
a featured soloist in broadcasts on BBC Radio 2 -
Young Artists’ programs and the Listen to the
Band series, Swiss Cable Radio, and on numerous
NPR stations in the US.
2005 will see the release of two MAJOR recording
projects for Adam: the release for Spring will be Little
Buckaroos, with Scott Hartmann (former
trombonist with the Empire Brass Quintet) and the
Metropolitan Wind Symphony was released. Late in
the year, a very highly anticipated recording with
the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will be
released.
Competitions have been a means for both career
enhancement within brass circles, but also for
furthering the standing of the euphonium as a solo
instrument in competitions open to all
instruments. During his years at the University of
Georgia, Adam was awarded the Presser Foundation
Scholar and received 1st Prizes at the Leonard
Falcone International Euphonium Competition and

Collins Symphony Orchestra and received 1st Prize
for his performance.
Adam also serves as Adjunct Professor of Euphonium
at Georgia State University and as the Euphonium
Artist Affiliate at Emory University. Both
programs are located in Atlanta, Georgia.
