Toru Miura
Born
in Osaka, Japan in 1948. 1971, earned B.M.
degree From Tokyo National Univ. of Fine Arts
and Music (Tokyo GEIDAI). Awarded Ataga
award. 1973, earned M.M. degree from Southern
Mississippi Univ. 1973-74, attended the
Eastman School of Music and performed in the
Eastman Wind Ensemble under conducting of Dr.
Donald Hansberger. Performing artist and a
clinician at the 2nd ITEC in 1983, the 2nd IBC
in 1984, the 3rd ITEC in 1986, the 4th ITEC in
1990, the 5th ITEC in 1992 and the 6th ITEC in
1995 and the IBC of the Summit Brass in 1996 and
the Verso il Millenio in 1997. 1992,
performed as a guest at Eastman W.E.40th
anniversary concert. Also performed with
Breeze Brass Band, etc. Served as the
Euphonium Coordinator and the Vice President for
International Relationship of T.U.B.A..
Other
appearances out side of Japan also include solo
performances and clinic in Hong Kong, Indonesia,
Taiwan, Hawaii and China. Solo recordings for
SONY include "Invitation to Playing Trombone and
Euphonium" etc., and a new solo CD for DEN-ON
has been released. His Euphonium Method is
published from Doremi Music Company . He is also
active as a writer about for various
professional magazines, including the Band
Journal, the Band People and the Pipers.
He
directs the Tokyo Bari-Tuba Ensemble and the
Euphonium Company as their founder. Recent,
Solo Euphoniumist with the Tokyo Kosei Wind
Orchestra. Instructor of euphonium and ensemble
at the Kunitachi College of Music, the Sobi
Music Academy, the Soai University and the Toho
Gakuen College.
Serves as a member of board
of directors for T.U.B.A. and the vice president
of J.E.T.A..
