Biography
Christian
Lindberg has, during his 15 years as a
trombone soloist, given the world premiere of no
less than 65 new trombone concerti and more than
twice that amount of smaller pieces. In addition
to this he has arranged, transcribed or
orchestrated more than 100 pieces for trombone and
composed his first opus "Arabenne" for
trombone and string orchestra which has received
brilliant reviews both in Sweden and abroad. This
unique contribution can only be compared with the
influence Paganini and Liszt had on the repertoire
for their instruments during the last century.
Havind
started playing the trombone at the age of 17,
Christian Lindberg (born 1958) was appointed first
trombone in the Royal Opera Orchestra in Stockholm
at the age of 19. After further studies in
Stockholm, London and Los Angeles he won several
international solo competition and made up his
mind to devote himself to a solo career, leaving
his position at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. In a
comparatively short time he succeeded in becoming
the first trombone soloist in history.
Christian
Lindberg has an impressive record production
and since his debut album "The Virtuoso
Trombone" in 1983, he has so far released no
less than 54 solo CD´s on companies such as BIS,
Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, Delos, Denon, LDR,
King International, Musical Heritage and Phono
Suecia.
Apart
from his contribution in the fieald of
contemporary music where he has succeeded like few
others to present new works in a way that breaks
down conservative scepticism everywhere, he is
also a great scholar of the baroque repertoire
which he performs on original instruments and is
as keen to perform the classical and romantic
repertoire. With his exceptional memory(he
performed 59 out of the 65 concerti at the world
premiere by memory!) and his dramatic talent, he
is also able to add "One-man-shows"
which include a considerable theatrial element.
sometimes also in costume, to his repertoire. He
has recital programmes in several combinations
together with international instrumentalists.
