Biography
Verne
Reynolds was born in 1926 in Lyons, Kansas, began
the study of violin and piano at an early age and
started the horn at age 13. He has degrees in
composition from the Cincinnati Conservatory and
the University of Wisconsin, and has studied at
the Royal College of Music in London. Mr. Reynolds
performed as a member of the Cincinnati Symphony,
the American Woodwind Quintet, and from 1959-68
was principal horn of the Rochester Philharmonic.
He was horn professor at the Eastman School of
Music for 36 years (until 1995) and previously
taught at the University of Wisconsin and Indiana
University. A founding member of the Eastman Brass
Quintet, Mr. Reynolds recorded and traveled
extensively with that group. As a composer, he has
published over 60 works and has received many
awards and commissions. One of his most recent
publications is The Horn Handbook,
published by Amadeus Press in 1996.
