Biography
Mason Jones (b. 1919) was the principal horn of
the Philadelphia Orchestra for nearly forty years
(1939-1978). After he retired from playing, he
continued as Personnel Manager of the orchestra.
Jones was a co-founder of the Philadelphia
Woodwind Quintet and also taught at the Curtis
Institute of Music.
His recordings of the standard horn repertoire
include: the concertos of Mozart and Strauss, and
the Hindemith Sonata with pianist Glenn Gould.
