Biography
A superb pianist, Herbert Holtz
began in music teaching piano, and playing for
silent movies. He studied horn with Joseph Franzl.
Later he became principal horn in the Hartford,
Springfield and New Haven symphony orchestras.
He retired from playing in 1967,
but returned later to play the obbligato part of
Mahler's 5th Symphony with the Hartford Symphony -
just months from his 74th birthday.
